Cambridge Aerotow Competition 2016

When
    Sat 13th - Mon 15th August
Arrival and setting up from Fri 12th August PM.

Where

Sutton Meadows airfield, Cambridgeshire

What

A friendly competition open to all Pilot rated aerotow pilots with tasks for rigid, topless, and kingposted gliders.  Tasks will be kept simple but scored via GPS so please bring one along, also with its download cable if you are able.  Waypoints will be set on the day, although the task could be “to anywhere and back”.

This year we are looking to run with dedicated marshals for a safer and more efficient launch environment.  Volunteers are kindly requested and the funds will cover their non-flying membership of the BHPA for a year.

A retrieve coordination service will also be provided, with returning pilots expected to help retrieve fellow pilots.  As ever, please contribute generously to your retrieve driver.  To assist in this we kindly request people install and use the Android “Tracker” app to send text message updates on position back to the coordinator.

New to 2016 we will also be relaying the competition live over the web using LiveTrack24 tracking viewable at http://www.livetrack24.com/events/cac2016. For those willing to participate in this we need you to use your own phones to send positions back to the LiveTrack24 server.  If you have yet to do so, please register with LiveTrack24, download one of the logging apps (“Tracker” is one), and try it out.  There are versions for iPhone and Android.

Camping is again available on site on the well-drained grass peri-track.  Cold mains water is available and there are two toilets on site.

Unfortunately to keep the running of the event viable this year we have decided not to provide a competition meal.  However, bacon / sausage rolls will be available to purchase each morning as per previous years!

Clubs attending

So far we have Cambridge, Avon, Malvern, Midland, and Notts who will all be bringing tugs ...

How much

Competition entry fee is £45 per pilot, with flights charged at £15 per tow up to 2000'.  If you decide to get off the line earlier than 2000' you will still be charged the full £15.  Tows that result in weak link breaks on the field that allow the hang glider pilot to land back on the field without turning will not be charged for.  A token system will be operating as per previous events with unused tokens being fully refundable.

If / when you land out you are expected to contribute to the retrieve drivers fuel and running costs.

There is a limit of 40 pilots for the event.  Please add yourself to the pilot list below to be considered should places come available.  This will be offered by email by list order.

A final pilot list will be published on this website.

We will make all attempts to hold the event, i.e. if looks taskable for at least one day as of the Tuesday / Wednesday forecast before it shall go ahead.  In the event we cancel at this point competition entry fees will be fully refunded.  Once called on, no refunds will be made and this includes the eventuality that we all turn up and the weather is then bad.
